Welcome to my first ever giveaway hop! The Literary Blog Hop, hosted by Judith at Leeswammes, is an alternative to a lot of the giveaway hops held elsewhere that seem to comprise of mostly YA, fantasy and paranormal blogs and prizes. I enjoy those too, because I read a bit of everything, but often a lot of the same books are being given away across the board, so I wanted to take part in a more eclectic version!
There are several big 'anniversaries' happening for me at the moment so it seemed a good time for a giveaway. My 2-year blogoversary is at the start of July, it's our bookshop's third birthday around the same time, I turned 25 at the end of May, and it's been a year since last summer's big Page to Screen event here on Musings of a Bookshop Girl! How time flies, and all that...
The Books
The Books
So, what can you win? Given my general adherence to the 'read then watch' rule, I've decided to offer up a selection of books that are making (or have already made) the leap onto the big screen in 2012 (plus one that isn't far behind). I love reading a book then finding out how a director has worked that book into a new medium, for a new audience!
The winner will choose ONE BOOK from the following list. There are some fantastic titles up for grabs, so choose wisely!

The Hop List
Now you've entered here, go and check out all the other great giveaways in the hop!

I pretty much think The Shawshank Redemption is the most perfect book to film transfer - and a pretty perfect film overall. I dare anyone to re-read the book without 'hearing' Morgan Freeman's narration now! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo far I like The Phantom of The Opera the most...
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the adaptatons of The Lord of the Rings! While they are of course not strictly faithful to the original material they have managed to capture its magic in a wonderful way. I am looking forward to The Hobbit so much, although I still have to read it first :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you have a lovely blog. I have no idea why I've only come across it now!
I agree with Cassandra. My favorite adaptations are LOTR movies as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! A nice idea books to films. I am thinking of Sophie's Choice straight away. It's so long ago, but it was the first thing to jump to mind. I thought that was a great book and a beautiful film.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the giveaway hop!
Not a direct book to movie crossover, but the use of Yamamoto Tsunetomo's sayings in the Hagakure, which make up a good part of Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai directed by Jim Jarmusch & starring Forest Whitaker, is something that sprang to mind.
ReplyDeletePS. my choice would be Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Jonathan Safran Foer, as keep meaning to try something by this writer.
DeleteWhat a lovely hop!
ReplyDeleteThe Princess Bride. I like the movie far better than the book, amazingly. :P
ReplyDeletebethwade1@gmail.com
Great book selection! My favourite adaptation, and possibly the only time I thought the film was better than the book, was Nicholas Sparks' THe Notebook. The film made me cry, but the book was just too schmaltzy!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite adaptation is prooobably Brokeback Mountain- Such an amazing film out of a really short story :)
ReplyDeletePride and Prejudice!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I feel bad entering this because you send me books all the time...
ReplyDeleteLet's see - I love the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice, the BBC one. Hmm, might watch that this afternoon actually. I adore the Scott Pilgrim film too, especially as I bought the manga thing last week. What else? The Percy Jackson film wasn't bad, oh and Lord of the Rings!
Oh Ellie, you know you can rename that 'Choose Your Own Task' thing?
DeleteYou have chosen a wonderful selection of books to give away. I just saw Bel Ami at Barnes and Noble yesterday, and I got so enthused I downloaded it on my nook.
ReplyDeletePerhaps one of the greatest prizes in these give always is to meet a blogger to which one feels a certain "simpatico". It's nice to visit your beautiful blog.
I would have to say Romeo and Juliet
ReplyDeleteHmm there are so many good ones! I really liked The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo adaptation this year. But then of course there's Pride & Prejudice . . . I'll just stick with those 2!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited about The HObbit
ReplyDeleteLOTR
ReplyDeleteI loved Water for Elephants! (Sara Gruen's book adaptation) Amazing movie and book!
ReplyDeleteThe Lord of the Rings series have been my favourite movie adaptations, I'm really excited for The Hobbit. Thanks for the giveaway. :D
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting the giveaway! It amazes me how many books are becoming movies these days - some good, some not so good, haha. I loved the film adaptation of Atonement.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book-to-film adaptation is probably Running With Scissors.. thought they did a great job capturing the mood & the sense of humor. Loved the book & loved the movie!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance... I've got my eye on that Guy de Maupassant! :P
Gone with the Wind is my favorite book....thanks...
ReplyDeleteprobably LA Confidential, though i love LOTR, and I wish someone would make a good version of Pride and Prejudice - still waiting
ReplyDeleteJoe Wright's Pride and Prejudice. Funny how I loathe the novel and loved the movie.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book-to-movie adaptation is probably Much Ado About Nothing directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Emma Thompson. It's one of my favorite Shakespeare plays with two of my favorite actors in the best roles.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. :)
I love the LOTR adaptations but also the Harry Potter movies. :) I think they did a wonderful job with both.
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter series and The Notebook.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Little Women. :) It's my favorite book and a beautiful film!
ReplyDeleteI'm very critical of movies made from books :( bc Hollywood can never get it just right, but I was impressed with Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier. It's an older one but I read it for the first time with my students just a year or so ago.
ReplyDeleteI usually don't like movies made from books, but I do like the Harry Potter movies.
ReplyDeleteNorth and South! It was book to tv-mini series though :) It was wonderful! Thank you for the international giveaway,
ReplyDeleteKristia Miltiadou.
Lord of the Rings is an amazing masterpiece (even if I do occasionally shout at the screen: "WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY FARAMIR?!" or "THAT NEVER REALLY HAPPENED.") So I was wondering if The Hobbit would be one of the books on this giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway opportunity. My all-time favourite book to screen is Gone With the Wind.
ReplyDeleteI thought High Fidelity was an excellent adaptation.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be Lord of the Rings. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite book-to-movie adaptation is "Pride and Prejudice," both the BBC 1995 mini-series and the 2005 version. They stay true to the novel in a way I appreciate. I can't say I was a fan of the 1940 black and white version, though.
ReplyDeleteI really don't have one. I liked About A Boy...and the recent The Hunger Games film.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Perks is coming out this September actually! I'm stoked.
-Lauren
Hmm, I must admit that if I see a book has been made into a movie, I'll read the book and not watch the movie!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Gone With the Wind even though the plots were rather different!
I'm waiting how good the Perks of A Wallflower can be in the movies but at the moment, the book-to-movie adaptation that I'd say, the best amongst all is Harry Potter! The substantiality of the story is there and the actors/actresses in the movie fits perfectly to the characters.
ReplyDeleteI love the Little Women version from the 90's.
ReplyDeleteI love Wuthering Heights adaptation, but only maybe because I like the book so much :)
ReplyDeletePride & Prejudice! A great book turned into a wonderful movie! Or I may be biased since it starred my fave actress in one of my fave books?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
The Hunger Games did it better than I thought...and I am so looking forward to The Great Gatsby!
ReplyDeleteLilian @ A Novel Toybox
I like The Hunger Games movie.
ReplyDeleteMemoirs of a Geisha. That movie is beautiful!
ReplyDeletethanks a lot for the giveaway!
Bridge to Terabithia was my favourite adaptation - I thought it captured the finer nuances wonderfully!
ReplyDeleteI also liked the Swedish film of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - the book was just so slow!
Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
Benjamin Button. The movie is NOTHING like Fitzgerald's book, but it's great anyway.
ReplyDeleteTwilight, mainly because it was truer to the book.. Just saw the Abe Lincoln movie last night and it was NOTHING like the book.
ReplyDeleteI also am a big stickler of reading a book before watching a movie adaptation. I think if you do it in the reverse, it ruins the reading experience as it limits my imagination.
ReplyDeleteI love the adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and the new Jane Eyre. I think most people disagree with me because they both leave out quite a bit, but they both felt like they kept the right tone of the book.
I think the movie version of THE VIRGIN SUICIDES was much kinder than the book regarding the Trip-Lux romances. I really loved GOON, but I haven't read the book and I imagine that there were some big differences between the versions. I have high hopes for the upcoming movie version of Dave Bidini's BASEBALLISSIMO, too.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
The Hunger Games! Thanks for this amazing giveaway - I would love to win!
ReplyDeleteGreat question and great giveaway books! I liked several of the movies based on Pat Conroys books such as The Great Santini and I enjoyed Emma and a couple of the Pride & Prejudice versions!
ReplyDeleteAimala127(at)gmail(dot)com
Wow, okay, I know it may offend some other bloggers, but this is one of the BEST selection of books that I've ever come across in a giveaway! I mean, each one of these books is renowned in it's own way - and the funny thing is, there's more than ONE book on this list, that I'm DYING to read - so GREAT selection there.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book-to-movie adaptation has to be Schindler's List (it was published as Schindler's Ark. This was one of two books that I read AFTER watching the movie (the other being Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton), that I absolutely LOVED! Thank you SO much for this amazing giveaway opportunity! :D
Thank you for your generosity, and for being part of the Literary Giveaway Hop.

ReplyDeleteI love Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone movie did not disappoint :) Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI have to go with Legends of the Fall. I absolutely love the movie, it is my all time favorite, and it still shocks me to this day how they made such an amazing film from such a disaster of a book.
ReplyDeleteI think my favourite adaptation is The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Yes it was slightly different from the films but just amazing! Out of the ones above I'm most looking forward to The Hobbit! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway :)
Great question.....it would have to be a chick lit movie.....take that back - a kids book - Ramona. I love that movie (and book).
ReplyDeleteOUps, I could not leave my comment about my favorite cinema adaptation of a book...Sorry, I can leave it here but I don't know if it counts.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, it is "Gone with the Wind".
Should I win thsi giveaway, i would love to get "We bought a Zoo" because I am an animal lover and defender.

I love the book to movie theme and you've picked books that look great. I'm planning to read On the Road so would love to win that. My favorite book to movie is Pride and Prejudice but I'm also partial to the Gene Wilder version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Most of the Harry Potter films were really good too.
ReplyDeleteawesome giveaway! thank you!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite movie adaptation of a book is The Godfather
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing my favorite adaption is the Harry Potter series
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway. My favourite book to movie adaptation must be the Harry Potter movies, or perhaps 995's Pride and Prejudice (but that's a TV series so it may not count).
ReplyDeleteThe Time Travelers Wife.. :)
ReplyDeleteBook-to-movie adaptation would probably be Lord of the Rings... but overall personal favourite would probably be Japanese drama series adaptation of 1 Litre of Tears - the diary of an ill Japanese girl.
ReplyDeleteThe Lord of the Rings trilogy
ReplyDeleteclockwork orange!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that The Outsiders by S E Hinton was the best book to movie adaptation I have seen. It's been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl.
ReplyDeleteLisa Hackney
For me nothing beats The Lord of the Rings trilogy
ReplyDeleteI'd go with Water for Elephants. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteLord of the Rings
